Tempe’s Rolling Hills golf course to close for renovations

PHOENIX — Tempe’s public golf course Rolling Hills will close for some TLC next week and is slated to reopen in early fall of this year.

The 18-hole course, one of two public courses run by the city of Tempe, will be getting an irrigation overhaul as well as a new lake, “enhancing its charm and improving the overall golf experience.”

It will close on April 18, and is slated to open again early this fall — perhaps October or November.

“The new irrigation system will be much more efficient, allowing staff to manage water use and reducing maintenance and water costs. Additionally, it will utilize a raw water source instead of potable (drinking) water,” Tempe said on its website.

The course’s restaurant and bar, Caddy Shack Sports Grill at Rolling Hills, will remain open from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. while the golf course is closed.

Tempe’s other public course, Ken McDonald will remain open and will take over for any lessons, leagues, or events normally held at Rolling Hills. Practices for Special Olympics and various high school golf teams will relocate to Ken McDonalds until renovations are complete.
