Temperatures to drop almost 25 degrees in metro Phoenix

PHOENIX – After days of sunshine and near 90-degree temperatures, weather in metro Phoenix is going in the opposite direction with a big cooling off.

The National Weather Service office in Phoenix predicted a high of around 70 degrees Friday and Saturday before falling all the way down to 64 on Sunday.

The sweater alert follows four days of highs in the 80s, topping out at 88 on Thursday.

There’s also a 40% possibility of showers Friday and Saturday.

Raindrops are likely to start falling midafternoon Friday, but not every area will get any.

“It’s not going to be one of those days where we get a soaking of all of Phoenix,” bureau meteorologist Jared Heil told KTAR News 92.3 FM on Friday.

Anywhere from one-tenth of an inch to a quarter inch – a high-end estimation – could make its way down and there could be isolated thunder and lightning and wind, he said.

“Rainfall has not been overly exciting this winter, especially past the holidays,” Heil said.
