Tempe police to be featured on national reality TV series ‘On Patrol: Live’

The Tempe Police Department will be featured on the reality television series “On Patrol: Live” beginning Friday, with cameras following officers as they conduct patrol operations in real time.

“On Patrol: Live” is a three-hour program that follows officers and deputies from law enforcement agencies across the country. The show features ride-alongs, documenting real arrests and community interactions. The show hopes to give viewers a ‘fly on the wall’ vantage point to see an officer’s experience.

Tempe Police Chief Ken McCoy said the department’s participation is intended to show the public a side of policing that often goes unseen.

“People often see police work through headlines or brief moments in a crisis,” McCoy said in a statement. “On Patrol allows us to share a broader picture of our officers, our values and the many ways we serve and connect with the community.”

“On Patrol: Live” is an unofficial successor to “Live PD,” a similar reality series that aired from 2016 to 2020. At the time of its cancellation, “Live PD” was the top-rated cable show during Friday prime time.

Phoenix Police, Arizona Department of Public Safety and Pinal County Sheriff’s Department have all been featured on Live PD.

The show, hosted by Dan Abrams, airs Friday and Saturday nights from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on REELZ.
