PHOENIX — The Tempe Police Department on Monday identified the suspect and victim of a fatal shooting last week.

The incident occurred Friday around 5:30 p.m. near Kyrene and Guadalupe roads when multiple witnesses told authorities they saw 26-year-old Anthony Andrew King exit his vehicle and fatally shoot 29-year-old Agamyrat Agambayev, who was sitting in another vehicle.

King then allegedly shot several times at an officer, who came on the scene just moments after the incident, the Tempe Police Department said in press release.

The officer at first believed it to be a collision before seeing a gun in King’s hand.

King fled westbound through the parking lot of Benedict Park and continued to fire at the officer, authorities said.

He then tried to carjack another person in the Benedict parking lot but was unsuccessful, authorities said.

King surrendered to police and was booked into the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office on various charges including homicide and theft.

Tempe Police said in a press conference on Friday that it was believed King and Agambayev did not know each other.

No officers were hurt and police did not fire their weapons, authorities said.
