Tempe Fire Department hosting informational day for female veterans

TEMPE, Ariz. — A Valley fire department is looking for a few good women who want to learn more about a possible career.

The Tempe Fire Department is holding an information day for female veterans. Fire Ops 101 allows participants to check out the basics of a fire-service career.

Participants will be able to cut cars apart, look for a victim during a simulated apartment fire and learn about the fire service itself.

Assistant Fire Chief Paul Nies said veterans, with their military training, really benefit the department.

“The structure of the military is not that much different from the structure we have here,” he said. “We feel like they have life experience that we would benefit from.”

Nies said the department isn’t hiring but may look to add about 20 positions in 2019.

The registration deadline for Fire Ops 101 is Friday.
