PHOENIX — Victims of crime in Tempe have a new way to deal with their difficult circumstances. Sully, a 2-year-old Labrador, has joined the Tempe CARE 7 Victim Services team.

Tempe announced Friday that Sully had been on the job for three weeks as the city has been recognizing Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

His work will include providing comfort to victims of violence and public safety officials who regularly deal with stressful situations at their job.

“He’s not there to judge or to ask any questions. He’s strictly there to love and listen and be sweet,” said Anastasia Stinchfield, Sully’s main handler.

Sully had been training as a service dog in Michigan before finding his home with CARE 7. He now lives with Stinchfield in Arizona.

The CARE 7 team was launched in 1997 to assist Tempe’s human services, police and fire departments.

Team members are tasked with answering questions, providing information, providing emotional support and connecting victims to services that help them navigate the court system.
