2 teens arrested after allegedly robbing and shooting at an online seller in Buckeye

PHOENIX — Two teen boys were arrested and charged on Wednesday after allegedly robbing and shooting at an online seller in Buckeye while meeting up to buy a pair of shoes, according to authorities.

Israel Ochoa, 18, was booked on charges of armed robbery, aggravated assault and discharging a weapon in city limits. The other teen suspect, a 17-year-old whose name was not released, was booked for armed robbery and aggravated assault, according to the Buckeye Police Department.

How did the teens rob an online seller in Buckeye?

The teens met up with the seller at approximately 12:15 p.m. near Verrado Way and Park Meadows Drive to buy shoes posted on OfferUp.

The suspects allegedly grabbed the shoes and ran off. The victim chased after them but was fired at during the pursuit, police said.

Officers received multiple calls about the incident and were able to quickly find the suspects less than a half-mile away. Officers briefly pursued the teens on foot before arresting them.

Officers found the weapon in a trash can and the stolen merchandise, which was returned to the victim, according to police.

Last year, a Goodyear man was arrested for robbing a victim after meeting up to buy an item that was listed online.

Law enforcement wants to remind the public to be careful when meeting strangers for online purchases. Make sure to meet in public populated places such as gas stations, shopping centers and maybe even a local police department.
