PHOENIX — A 14-year-old has died after being ejected from a vehicle during a car accident in a suburb north of Phoenix on Thursday, according to the Phoenix Police Department.

According to Sgt. Mercedes Fortune, the unidentified female passenger was killed after the small car she was in collided with an SUV at the intersection of Tatum Boulevard and Cave Creek Road in Cave Creek just before 3 p.m.

Fortune said the two vehicles collided, causing the smaller vehicle to roll over. The girl was in the smaller vehicle with three other people and was ejected from the vehicle as it rolled. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The other three occupants in the vehicle were taken to a nearby hospital with serious injuries. The driver in the SUV was also transported to a local hospital, but the extent of their injuries was unknown.

Fortune said a red light violation could be a factor for this collision, but did not clarify which vehicle may have been at fault.

The intersection remains closed for an ongoing investigation and drivers are encouraged to take another route of travel.
