Tanker rollover causes natural gas leak in Phoenix

According to Phoenix Fire, hazmat crews were called in after a tanker carrying CNG rolled over at 29th Avenue and Happy Valley Road on Wednesday.

PHOENIX — A tanker rolled over early Wednesday morning, causing a natural gas leak in Phoenix.

According to Phoenix Fire, hazmat crews were called in after a tanker carrying compressed natural gas rolled over at 29th Avenue and Happy Valley Road, just west of Interstate 17.

The driver managed to pull himself out of the vehicle, but the tank began leaking from the incident.

Both Phoenix and Glendale fire crews are on scene.

The surrounding area was being evacuated, with road and freeway traffic being restricted.

Hazmat teams are working to either stop the leak with the use of shutoff valves or from an emergency shutoff.

No other information was immediately available.
