Taking heat: Phoenix-area temperatures to pass 110 this week

PHOENIX — For those wondering when Arizona’s excessive heat would be making an appearance this year, the time is now.

The National Weather Service in Phoenix reported that temperatures were expected to creep past 110 degrees this week, putting a heat watch in effect starting Tuesday and ending Friday.

The plastic-melting forecasts drop off in the overnight lows.

The service said the average date for the first 110-degree day in the Valley is around June 10, which gave the area nearly an extra week to not fry.

The hottest day in Phoenix last year was 114 degrees on July 24, according to Weatherspark.com.

In addition to the blazing heat, monsoon season also officially kicked off Monday.
