Man arrested in Phoenix double-murder investigation

Charles Hendrix, 56, and Jerry Braggs, 64, were killed near 16th and McKinley streets. Jail records list Taishawn Bailey's bond at $2 million.

Taishawn Bailey was arrested Wednesday on two counts of premeditated first-degree murder in the shooting deaths of two men, Phoenix police said.

Detectives arrested Bailey, 23, near 48th Street and Baseline Road, 8 miles from the scene of the double murder near 16th and McKinley streets.

A firearm was recovered at the time of his arrest, but police did not say whether it was connected to the shootings.

Bailey is suspected of killing Charles Hendrix, 56, and Jerry Braggs, 64, early Tuesday.

Officers responded to multiple reports of gunfire shortly after 4:30 a.m. and found the victims, who each had at least one gunshot wound.

Phoenix Fire Department personnel pronounced both men dead at the scene.

The suspect had fled before officers arrived.

Jail records list Bailey’s bond at $2 million. His next court appearance is Oct. 14.
