PHOENIX – An abrupt but brief change in the weather will bring a real feel of fall to metro Phoenix over the next couple of days, forecasters said Wednesday.

Daytime temperatures are expected to only hit 63 degrees Thursday and 64 degrees Friday, about 20 degrees below normal, the National Weather Service in Phoenix told KTAR News 92.3 FM.

“We’re going to see a big drop,” meteorologist Isaac Smith said, noting Wednesday’s high was likely to be 80 degrees.

In more chilly news, after Wednesday, lows won’t go above 50 degrees for the rest of the week. Usually, the low temperature is around 58 degrees this time of the year, according to Smith.

There may be a bit of rain along the way, as well, Smith said, and definitely some wind – gusts of anywhere from 10-20 mph.

“The next big weather system pushing into the region is increasing chances for showers around the Valley climbing to 30%-40% with amounts looking to be on the light side,” he said.

Rain could start overnight, stop, then return Thursday around 11 a.m.

All of that will be gone by Friday, Smith said.

“As we head into the weekend, we’re going to see that clear out and temperatures will bounce back into the 70s.”

In fact, Monday’s high is predicted to reach 79 degrees, followed by 76 degrees Tuesday.

Farewell, sweaters. Until we meet again.
