PHOENIX — An overnight accident took out a railroad signal south of Phoenix, disrupting traffic on a state highway and creating a lengthy backup Tuesday.
A suspected drunk driver ran into a crossing signal on State Route 347 in Maricopa late Monday. Neither the driver nor the passenger were injured, but with the light out, the road was down to one lane in each direction. Honeycutt Road was a line of cars waiting to move around 940 a.m.
The car had been heading south when it veered and hit the signal.

Union Pacific Railroad workers were making repairs at the crossing.
“It’s going to possibly be an all-day thing,” Maricopa Police Department spokesman Ricardo Alvarado told the Maricopa Monitor.
No other details were immediately available.
