Suspected drunk driver causes power outage in Scottsdale, police say

PHOENIX — A suspected drunk driver crashed into a power pole in the early hours of Friday morning, leaving dozens of Scottsdale residents without electricity, authorities said.

The DUI suspect was arrested after the collision near 68th Street and Thomas Road around 4 a.m., the Scottsdale Police Department said.

The driver’s identity has not been released. He refused medical treatment and no injuries have been reported, police said.

Suspected drunk driver caused power outage, police say

The crash left the power pole damaged, which impacted power lines in the area.

Fire crews responded to the scene to deal with the crash scene and the downed power lines. The Salt River Project went to the scene to assess the damage and do repairs.

As of 7 a.m. Friday, 41 customers in the area are without power, according to the Salt River Project. The estimated time for power to be restored is 1:50 p.m.
