Suspect to be booked for hit-and-run that killed 1, injured another in west Phoenix

A suspect will be booked in connection with a west Phoenix hit-and-run that killed one woman and injured another on Sunday morning, authorities said.

Officers were called to the area of 43rd Avenue and Thomas Road around 6:20 a.m. for a two-vehicle collision with callers stating that a BMW had fled the scene, according to the Phoenix Police Department.

Police and fire crews found a 60-year-old woman, who was driving a Toyota Camry, with serious injuries before she was taken to a nearby hospital.

Authorities learned that after the first collision, the BMW hit a 40-year-old woman before crashing into a fence. She was taken to a hospital in extremely critical condition before being pronounced dead.

Detectives located the 24-year-old male driver of the BMW at his home, and he had serious injuries. He was taken to a hospital and once released will be booked for a hit and run and other charges related to the fatal west Phoenix incident.
