PHOENIX — An unidentified suspect has died after sustaining injuries from an officer-involved shooting near 24th and Van Buren streets Thursday afternoon, Phoenix police said.
Phoenix Police Sgt. Vince Lewis confirmed in an email that 27-year-old Michael Cisneros has died after sustaining injuries from an officer-involved shooting, but said no officers were injured.
Lewis said police were called to the Sky Harbor Inn to pick up a probation violator when they came in contact with Cisneros on the second story of the complex, saw he was armed and ordered him to drop the gun. Cisneros refused.
Police said the man pointed his gun at officers. At that moment, Lewis said, the shooting took place.
Lewis said one officer, an 8- to 10-year veteran with the department, fired their weapon.
Officials closed Van Buren in both directions between 22nd and 24th streets around 5:20 p.m. Thursday. Lewis said drivers should expect the street to be closed for the next few hours.
