Suspect arrested in fatal auto-pedestrian crash in Phoenix

PHOENIX — A suspect allegedly involved in a fatal auto-pedestrian collision early Wednesday in Phoenix was arrested.

Police responded to a collision involving a pedestrian around 4:30 a.m. near Camelback Road and 36th Street, the Phoenix Police Department said.

When officers arrived, they found 29-year-old Habimana Ciza suffering from lie-threatening injuries.

He was taken to hospital, where he died from his injuries.

The driver of the vehicle involved in the crash didn’t remain on scene, police said.

Authorities identified the suspect driver as 54-year-old Graciela Gracia-Marquez.

Gracia-Marquez was arrested and booked into jail for leaving the scene of a collision involving a death.

An investigation is ongoing.
