Study: Phoenix metro area ranks among top in nation for new resident income

PHOENIX — Maricopa County has ranked among the top metro areas in the country for highest gross income from new residents, according to the Phoenix Business Journal.

New Internal Revenue Service data shows the Phoenix metro area has brought in more than $1 billion from residents who moved to the area between 2012 and 2013, ranking it No. 4 in the nation.

The $1.1 billion was calculated by subtracting income from residents leaving the area from the income of those moving in, finding that new residents were bringing in a significant amount more than those who were leaving.

Maricopa County was joined in the five counties gaining the most gross income by Travis County in Texas with $2.4 billion, Palm Beach County in Florida with $1.6 billion,  Collier County in Florida with $1.4 billion and Clark County in Nevada with $1 billion.

The five counties losing the most gross income are Los Angeles County in California with $1.8 billion, Cook County in Illinois with $1.2 billion, New York County in New York with $1.1 billion, Westchester County in New York with $640 million and Fairfield County in Connecticut with $622 million.
