PHOENIX — The Philadelphia Eagles and New England Patriots will square off in the Super Bowl next weekend, but apparently some fans headed to the big game live in Arizona.
Popular ticket resell site StubHub said it has seen a 15 percent increase in Super Bowl ticket buyers from the Grand Canyon State since Sunday, when the two teams in the game were set.
The site said about 7.3 percent of total buyers were from Arizona, one of the largest group of purchasers by state in the country.
The state that has bought the most tickets was Minnesota, where Super Bowl LII will be held. That was followed by California and Massachusetts, the state the Patriots call home.
People from Pennsylvania — the home state of the Eagles — made up 7.2 percent of buyers.
Everyone buying tickets on the resell site were shelling out far more than just a couple bucks. StubHub said the average price per ticket was more than $6,100, easily the highest price in the past decade.
It’s tough to say exactly why so many people from Arizona were looking to head to the big game, but we’re guessing there are at least three possible factors:
- We’re home to many people who moved from elsewhere in the country
- Going to a Super Bowl is a bucket list item for many
- Several players in the game went to the University of Arizona, including Eagles quarterback Nick Foles and Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski
