Stolen vehicle suspect arrested after running through school grounds

PHONEIX — Police arrested a 21-year-old man and booked him into jail for stealing a vehicle, among other crimes, on Wednesday afternoon.

The Mesa Police Department responded around 1 p.m. to the area of Roosevelt Road and Main Street for reports of a stolen vehicle. Police attempted to stop the car but the car fled at a high speed after they turned their sirens on.

The man, who was identified as William Brock, was then seen parking his vehicle and running away from officers near Second Street. Mesa police caught up to Brock quickly and detained him as he was on the campus of an elementary school.

Brock was charged with theft of means of transportation, unlawful flight, resisting arrest, criminal trespass, criminal damage and disorderly conduct, police said.

The nearby school Brock was accused of trespassing was put under lockdown as a precautionary measure.
