PHOENIX –What better way to get a jump start on those fitness goals for the new decade than a hike on New Year’s Day at one of Arizona’s state parks?

Arizona State Parks and Trails will host special events at nearly 20 locations, featuring ranger-led hikes, tours, boat rides, and even s’mores and hot chocolate for those chilly morning temperatures.

Most hikes begin at either 9 a.m. or 10 a.m., with a twilight boat tour at Patagonia Lake State Park being the latest event at 3:45 p.m.

The events are taking place across Arizona, from Cottonwood to Tucson.

It is advised people wear appropriate shoes, bring plenty of water, and a camera to capture shots of Arizona’s beauty.

Park entrance fees do apply.
