PHOENIX — A man disobeying a court order and police officers in Mesa exchanged gunfire before a long standoff ended early Thursday.

No one was injured. Police evacuated neighbors from the area near Stapley Drive and McKellips Road. Others were told to stay inside their homes.

Detective Nik Rasheta said in an email that the department was called when residents spotted a man who had been ordered to stay away from a particular house.

After a SWAT team showed up, the man fired at them and officers fired back. He then barricaded himself, along with the man who lived there, in the house.

He surrendered after several hours.

Authorities have not made his name public.

No other details were immediately available.
