PHOENIX — The Stamp Out Hunger food drive is returning to the Valley this weekend in an effort to put an end to hunger.

The food drive is set for Saturday and sees residents place nonperishable food donations in their mailboxes that will be picked up by their local carrier, according to a press release.

Food donations are asked to be dropped off before 8 a.m. as letter carriers will begin dropping off received donations at post offices by 4 p.m.

The event aims to stockpile food for the summer months, when the need increases and donations typically decrease, the release said.

The food drive is hosted by the National Association of Letter Carriers and the United Food Bank is the primary receiver for donations made in the East Valley.

Since its inception in 1983, the food drive has collected more than 1.3 billion pounds of food.

The NALC holds the event in about 10,000 cities and towns throughout the country.

We want to hear from you.
