PHOENIX — A freeway in Phoenix is set to get improvement work done, which may cause traffic delays this weekend.
The Arizona Department of Transportation announced State Route 51 will be restricted starting Friday for improvement projects, among other travel advisories.
Travelers are encouraged to consider alternate routes and use caution in work zones while these restrictions are in place:
- Southbound SR 51 will be narrowed to one lane between McDowell Road and the Interstate 10 “Mini-Stack” interchange from 9 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Saturday for overhead sign work. The ramps to westbound I-10 and eastbound Loop 202 will be closed, along with the off-ramp at McDowell Road.
- Southbound SR 51 will be narrowed to two lanes between McDowell Road and the I-10 “Mini-Stack” interchange from 9 p.m. Saturday to 5 a.m. Sunday for overhead sign work.
- SR 51 on- and off-ramps at Bell Road will be closed from 9 p.m. Friday to 11 p.m. Sunday for pavement improvements. Bell Road right lanes will be closed in both directions.
- Eastbound I-10 will be narrowed to one lane near 59th Avenue from 9 p.m. Sunday to 5 a.m. Monday for bridge construction at the Loop 202 South Mountain Freeway interchange. Eastbound I-10 will be closed briefly if needed.
