Spirits of Mexico Festival set to show off Hispanic culture, traditions in Phoenix this weekend

PHOENIX — This weekend, the streets of downtown Phoenix will be adorned with unique art displays, live music and culinary delights at the second annual Spirits of Mexico Festival.

The two-day cultural celebration at Heritage Square will specifically be highlighting Nayarit, Mexico, which is famous for “lush jungles and vibrant Indigenous culture,” according to a press release.

From 11 a.m.-6 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, Valley residents can enjoy watching traditional dances, try their hand at various cooking and spirit mixology classes and peruse many different local food and craft vendors.

“We want to bring the heart of Mexico to Phoenix and create a space where people can celebrate and connect with its diverse culture and traditions,” Spirits of Mexico Festival organizer Yazmin Quezada said in the release. “This year, we’re thrilled to feature Nayarit Mexico, a state that embodies so much natural beauty, rich history, and unique flavors.”

The festivities are certainly taking place to show off Nayarit and Mexican culture, but the event also exists to instill opportunities for economic collaboration across U.S.-Mexico lines.

Tickets for Spirits of Mexico Festival

General admission tickets for Spirits of Mexico Festival are $10 and available for purchase online. The ticket provides access to all live entertainment, food trucks, a beer bar and cocktails.

Children ages 12 and under get into the event for free.

VIP tickets are $45 and include the benefits of general admission plus the ability to register for cooking and mixology classes and 10 coins used to participate in agave distillate tasting. The tasting area is for those ages 21 and up.

Whether it be agave or other distillates like tequila, mezcal, sotol and bacanora, guests have the chance to sip Mexican tradition.

• 12 p.m. – Grupo Folklorico, Sabor de Mexico
• 1 p.m. – Gabriella Sossa
• 1 p.m. – Danza Alma de Mexico
• 2 p.m. – Jesse Armenta’s Trio Mexico de Oro
• 4 p.m. – Mariachi Mi Voz es Mexico

Other offerings at Spirits of Mexico Festival

Those at the celebration can also partake in arts and crafts workshops and adults ages 21 and up can experience a “CATAS” guided tasting session, led by tequila experts.

The Spirits of Mexico Festival is made possible by Downtown Phoenix, Inc., Phoenix’s General Mexican Consulate and the Arizona Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.
