Special Olympians, law enforcement officers to team up in Glendale

PHOENIX – Special Olympics athletes will team up with law enforcement officers to compete in the Law Enforcement Torch Run Guardian Games on Friday in Glendale.

Teams of four will face off in eight games, including street hockey, soccer, putting and basketball skills, during the event throughout the Westgate Entertainment District.

An opening ceremony will be held at 9:30 a.m., and the festivities will conclude at 1:30 p.m.

Each team will have one Special Olympics athlete, one officer and two participants from a sponsor.

The Arizona Cardinals, Arizona Diamondbacks, Arizona Coyotes, Phoenix Suns and Phoenix Rising FC are among the sponsors.

All money raised will benefit Special Olympics Arizona.

According to the event’s website, the Guardian Games were created “to develop a closer relationship between Special Olympics athletes, law enforcement and Arizona businesses through a fun and unique format.”
