Southwest Airlines moves up Phoenix to Memphis flights to take off Sunday

PHOENIX — Two months after announcing an original start date of Dec. 17, Southwest Airlines has moved up its round-trip flights from Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport to Memphis to take off for the first time on Sunday.

Prior to the coronavirus pandemic, Memphis saw 115 passengers per day flying through Sky Harbor or Phoenix-Mesa Gateway airports.

The new direct flight will now provide a one-stop connecting option to eight west coast destinations, which combined account for 465 passengers each day, each way, according to the Memphis Business Journal.

The outbound flight will depart Phoenix at 10:10 a.m. (Arizona time) and arrive in Memphis at 3:15 p.m. (Tennessee time).

The return stint will feature departing Memphis at 3:55 p.m. (Tennessee time) and landing in Phoenix at 5:05 p.m. (Arizona time).

Both flights will be available seven days a week, 365 days a year.

In the month of May, Southwest surpassed American as the largest airline at Sky Harbor by passenger count.
