Southbound Interstate 17 reopened near Black Canyon City following brush fire

The southbound lanes of Interstate 17 near Black Canyon City have reopened after the highway was closed for nearly two hours Sunday afternoon for a brush fire, the Arizona Department of Transportation said.

PHOENIX — The southbound lanes of Interstate 17 near Black Canyon City have reopened after the highway was closed for nearly two hours Sunday afternoon for a brush fire, the Arizona Department of Transportation said.

The closure at milepost 252, about 10 miles north of Black Canyon City, began around 1:30 p.m. and ended just before 3:30 p.m.

Drivers were advised to prepare for extra time due to heavy delays in the area.

People can also use State Route 89 through Prescott and State Route 87 through Payson to get to Phoenix, ADOT said.
