South Mountain Park in Phoenix still under repair from storms

PHOENIX — As the seasons change and temperatures begin to cool, more people begin heading out to some of Phoenix’s various parks.

However, one of the most popular parks will be under repair for some time.

After being pounded by heavy rain that caused landslides more than a month ago — and by several Valley storms that have since followed — South Mountain Park is still under repairs to clean up the aftermath.

“It technically wiped out the area we had been working on, plus other areas on the Summit Road,” said Park Ranger Christine Romo.

Summit Road, which takes visitors to the park’s upper lookouts, will be closed for some time as a result, she said.

“From what I’m understanding, we’re looking at hopefully within three months that it’s all completed,” she said. “But it’s indefinite.”

That has access to popular destinations such as Dobbins Lookout severely restricted, only accessible by hiking.
