US Postal Service unveils new sorting and delivery center in Surprise

A new U.S. Postal Service sorting and delivery center opened in Surprise last month to better serve residents.

PHOENIX — A new U.S. Postal Service sorting and delivery center opened in Surprise last month to provide better service to residents.

The new center is located at 14995 West Bell Road.

“We’re transforming our operations to meet the evolving needs of our customers. The new Surprise SDC (sorting and delivery center) is part of our commitment to delivering faster, more reliable service while creating a better workplace for our dedicated employees,” District Manager Tina Sweeney said in a press release last week.

Details on Surprise sorting and delivery center

The USPS employs more than 10,000 Arizonans, according to USPS.

However, the USPS has been struggling for years, with losses in the billions.

The Surprise sorting and delivery is part of a $17 billion effort to revitalize the services, according to USPS.

The facility is part of a $154 million investment that includes seven other buildings and more than 1,100 new delivery vehicles across Arizona. The funds invested in Arizona are part of a larger $40 billion investment across the country.

Arizonans will see “shorter wait times, improved package tracking and enhanced safety measures for the (workers)” as a result of the investment, according to USPS.
