Chandler commits up to $34M for solar installations at city facilities

PHOENIX — Officials in Chandler hope to harness solar energy to help power various public facilities.

The city recently entered into a partnership with energy company Ameresco, Inc. to install solar panels across 23 city facilities, including rooftops, parking areas, fire stations, libraries and even city hall.

Although the solar panels come with 25-year warranties, they’re expected to work for up to 35 years.

Officials expect construction of the solar panels to be complete by 2026.

The company has already made detailed engineering plans for each of the locations.

The new partnership, made official through a Master Energy Services Agreement, locks Chandler into a 20-year agreement with the company.

It will take $34 million for the solar panels to go up across the city buildings.

However, officials believe it will be worth the cost.

City leaders say the project will save Chandler $42.4 million in energy costs over the next two decades.
