Arizona Snowbowl opened 1 day earlier than scheduled due to heavy snows

PHOENIX — Skiers and snowboarders got an early-season surprise when Arizona Snowbowl opened a day ahead of schedule on Thursday.

Resort officials announced the early opening after the mountain received 37 inches of fresh snow over the past five days.

The early start means winter sports enthusiasts were able to hit the slopes sooner than expected.

The first chairlift began loading at noon at the base of the Arizona Gondola, offering access to advanced terrain only.

Guest services at Hart Prairie Lodge opened at 11:30 a.m., and the Agassiz Lodge Restaurant & Bar welcomed visitors starting at noon.

Snowbowl encouraged guests to grab their gear, rally their crew and make the most of the fresh powder.

For those planning ahead, lift tickets this winter start as low as $19 when purchased online in advance, according to the resort’s website.
