Snow makes 1st showing of season in Flagstaff with more to come

PHOENIX – Arizona’s high country has gotten its first snowfall of the season and more was on its way Thursday.

Nearly 6 inches of snow had fluttered to the ground starting Wednesday in Flagstaff. The city and surrounding areas were expecting another 6 inches.

National Weather Service meteorologist Megan Taylor in Bellemont told KTAR News 92.3 FM the first snow arrived on the date it most often does.

“It’s coming right on time,” Taylor said.

The Flagstaff airport got about 3 inches, she said, while Bellemont got almost 5 inches.

Travel could be a challenge, Taylor said. Driving was already proving to be troublesome on Interstate 40.

“The plows have done a pretty good in the Flagstaff area keeping things clear (but) be prepared for those winter driving conditions through the day,” Taylor said.
