PHOENIX — Snow and ice combined to create difficult and dangerous driving conditions in northern Arizona early Monday morning, with reports of vehicles sliding off roadways.

Parts of Interstates 17 and 40 were slick from the cold and wetness.

Flagstaff was under a winter weather advisory for most of the day.

Snow was also falling Prescott.

The National Weather Service said elevation from 6,000 to 9,000 feet could get nearly a foot of snow, with about 9 inches expected to fall.

In the Phoenix area, rain fell overnight but didn’t pose much of a problem for those on the streets and freeways.
