Scottsdale’s SkySong lands Yelp deal, experiences wave of leasing activity

PHOENIX — SkySong, the massive Scottsdale mixed use development, recently roped in San Francisco-based tech giant Yelp.

The technology company known for its website, which lets users review local restaurants and other destinations, signed a lease for a space in SkySong 4, one of the six units that makes up the massive center.

The news comes after a courtship that lasted several years, according to a Wednesday news release from Plaza Companies, the developer of the SkySong project.

SkySong is home to many top companies such as Arizona State University, Century Link, Starbucks and Canon.

“SkySong provides an environment where innovation and lifestyle meet,” Plaza Companies CEO Sharon Harper said in the release. “The project continues to evolve and adapt, making it a one-stop destination for businesses looking to grow and succeed while also offering their teams an exceptional work-life balance.”

Three other companies within the property are going to expand their physical spaces, including Medicare Benefits Direct, which is more than doubling its territory from 3,714 to 8,648 square feet.

As of December, SkySong has an occupancy rate of 88%, consisting of many long-standing partnerships and now a long-sought-after partnership with Yelp.

SkySong said it will remain committed to meeting the needs of these business agreements as it stretches itself to accommodate future partners on its 42-acre grounds.

Arizona State University president Michael Crow and the city of Scottsdale created the business center in 2004. With the ASU connection, businesses in SkySong have direct access to graduate-level academic resources and are able to collaborate with leaders in many applicable research studies.
