Sky Harbor lands high in JD Power rankings of best mega airports

Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport was ranked among the five best airports in a recent study of top North American mega airports.

JD Power rated Sky Harbor the third-best airport among North American mega airports in passenger satisfaction in the study published on Wednesday.

Only Minneapolis-Saint Paul International Airport (1st) and Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport (2nd) ranked higher than Sky Harbor on the list.

LaGuardia Airport in Queens, New York (3rd), Harry Reid Airport in Las Vegas (4th) and San Francisco International Airport (5th) rounded out the top five.

How was Sky Harbor ranked on the list?

In the study of top mega, large and medium North American airports, an airport could earn up to 1,000 points, as the study measures overall passenger satisfaction. Sky Harbor scored 642 points out of 1000.

Factors that play into the score of the top airports on the lists include:

• Ease of travel
• Level of trust
• Terminal facilities
• Staff
• Departure/arrival at the airport
• Food, beverage and retail experience

Tampa International Airport ranked the highest among larger airports with 715 points. Charleston International Airport in South Carolina was the highest-ranked medium airport with 712 points.

More than 24,700 U.S. and Canadian residents who traveled through at least one airport in the past 30 days completed the survey.
