Scottsdale organization provides free help to single parents battling cancer

PHOENIX — A Phoenix-area based organization is providing single parents who are battling cancer with resources that will help them pay bills, stock pantry shelves and even eat healthy meals.

Singleton Moms, a non-profit organization based in Scottsdale, is “dedicated to nurturing single parents battling cancer and their minor children” by meeting the day-to-day needs of the entire family, according to their website.

The organization offers programs that help families pay household bills with a monthly stipend, provides them with warm meals, cleans their house once a month and provides families with a supply of household items.

“[Single parents] are definitely not alone,” said founder Jody Farley. “They shouldn’t be afraid to ask for help.”

The free resource was started in memory of a friend of Farley’s – a single parent of four children who passed away in 2005.

Farley said she tried to offer what help she could while her friend tried juggling a family, cancer treatment and other responsibilities. She said single people are strong, but treating cancer is tough.

“They definitely can handle it,” Farley said. “But it’ll be a heck of a lot easier if they’re open to allowing others to support them.”

There is no charge for Singleton Moms’ help. Farley said the person just has to call, complete a brief “intake questionnaire” and that’s it.
