Silver Alert canceled after 81-year-old Mesa man found safe

PHOENIX — A Silver Alert was canceled Wednesday night after a missing 81-year-old man was found safe in Apache Junction around 8:30 p.m., according to authorities.

Thomas Thornton was last seen leaving his home near Hawes and Guadalupe roads in Mesa on Tuesday.

Thornton left home around 2:45 p.m. in a red 2019 Toyota Avalon, according to authorities.

Mesa police say an observant citizen saw Thornton’s vehicle on the freeway and called it in.

Thornton was reunited with his family.

He suffers from dementia, as well as other health concerns.
