Silver Alert canceled after 81-year-old man’s remains found

A Silver Alert for an 81-year-old man from Pima County who went missing in late June was canceled on Sunday after his remains were found.

PHOENIX — A Silver Alert for an 81-year-old man from Pima County who went missing in late June was canceled on Sunday after his remains were found.

The Pima County Sheriff’s Office, working with the U.S. Border Patrol BORSTAR agents, found remains believed to belong to James Gutekunst on Sunday.

Authorities said foul play is not suspected.

Gutekunst was last seen on foot off of Interstate 19 south of Tucson between June 22-28. The alert was issued in Maricopa County on Friday.

Gutekunst was white, 5-foot-8 and 140 pounds with gray hair and brown eyes. There was not a clothing description available.

The investigation remains ongoing.
