University of Arizona College of Medicine-Phoenix could potentially lose its accreditation after a recent site review put it on warning status.

The school would no longer have federal financial aid.

If not enough progress is made addressing the problems within 12 months, the Liaison Committee on Medical Education would have the authority to place the school on probation. The committee could also take away the medical school’s accreditation status. This is according to a letter the committee sent to UA president Ann Weaver Hart.

The Phoenix Business Journal reported the letter goes over strengths of the institution, but also says there must be a clear understanding of the authority and responsibility for the medical education program among the leaders and faculty of the medical college and UA.

The school has until Dec. 1 to submit a status report.
