Woman hospitalized after fight turns into shooting in south Phoenix

PHOENIX — A woman was hospitalized after a fight turned into a shooting in south Phoenix Thursday afternoon, authorities said.

According to the Phoenix Police Department, officers responded to a shooting near Central and Sunland avenues around 4 p.m.

When officers arrived on scene, they found a woman suffering from a gunshot wound.

She was taken to a nearby hospital with serious injuries that were considered not life-threatening.

What led to the south Phoenix shooting?

During the preliminary investigation, detectives learned that two women were arguing and it escalated into a fight. One of the women then pulled out a gun and fired it multiple times.

Police said that the woman who was shot was a bystander and was not involved in the fight.

According to Phoenix PD, the women involved in the fight were still on scene and had been identified.

The investigation into the south Phoenix shooting is ongoing.
