Man arrested for shooting, killing a woman in west Phoenix

A woman was killed in a shooting in Phoenix on Monday and police have arrested one man as a suspect.

PHOENIX — A woman was killed in a shooting in Phoenix on Monday and police have arrested one man as a suspect.

According to a media advisory, Michelle Marie Semenjuk, 63, was found unresponsive at an apartment near the intersection of 43rd and Virginia avenues around 4:40 p.m.

She was taken to a nearby hospital where she was later pronounced dead.

The suspect, identified as 58-year-old Salvador Najera Jr., allegedly told a family member that he had shot someone and then left the scene in his vehicle.

An additional witness said they saw Najera walking away from the apartment immediately after the shooting occurred.

Police say Najera admitted to the shooting during an interview at police headquarters and admitted to being a prohibited possessor.

He was booked on murder and misconduct involving weapons.
