Shooting at west Phoenix mall leaves 1 victim in critical condition

PHOENIX — One man is in critical condition after being shot Tuesday at a west Phoenix mall.

Phoenix police officers responded to reports of a shooting at Desert Sky Mall near 76th Avenue and Thomas Road around 3:50 p.m., Phoenix Police Sgt. Maggie Cox told KTAR News 92.3 FM in an email.

The victim — described as a male juvenile — was rushed to a local hospital, Cox said.

According to Cox, the initial investigation has led police to believe the shooting was the culmination of a verbal argument between two groups of juveniles.

The email said the suspects immediately fled the scene.

Desert Sky Mall’s south end has been closed for the rest of the business day.

The investigation is ongoing.
