PHOENIX — Jolly ‘ol Saint…Arpaio?
Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio, the self-proclaimed “America’s Toughest Sheriff,” revealed a softer side of himself on Thursday when he spent the day spreading some holiday cheer.
For the 10th year in a row, the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office teamed up with St. Vincent de Paul to hand out Christmas gifts to those who are less fortunate in the Metro Phoenix-area.
“It is usually the families that don’t have money,” Arpaio said. “This is one way to make sure their kids are taken care of.”
The sheriff said he is thankful for the generosity of those who donated and hopes it encourages other to give to those in need this holiday season.
“We have a record number of toys this year,” Arpaio said. “We broke the record with over 6,000 (toy donations).”
