Arizona sex addiction clinician arrested in sexual assault cold case

An Arizona sex addiction clinician was arrested Wednesday in the investigation of a sexual assault cold case from 2004, authorities said.

The Tucson Police Department arrested John “Lincoln” Sperry for the alleged sexual assault of his 14-year-old foster daughter.

In the original 2004 investigation, the police investigated, conducted interviews, served search warrants and collected evidence after the Department of Child Services reported Sperry had assaulted his foster daughter. However, the case was ultimately closed.

The victim, now in her 30s, recontacted the police this year and detectives from the sexual assault cold case unit reopened the investigation.

Forensic evidence was reviewed and follow-up interviews were conducted before detectives submitted their findings to the Pima County Attorney’s Office and an arrest warrant was issued, police said.

Tucson detectives found Sperry was now living in Prescott and coordinated with the Prescott Police Department to carry out the arrest warrant. The 65-year-old was now working as a licensed clinical social worker, where he specialized in sex addiction treatment.

Sperry was charged with two counts of sexual conduct with a minor. He was booked into the Yavapai County Detention Center and will be extradited to Pima County, police said.

This remains an ongoing investigation.
