PHOENIX — Flights from Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport to the Colorado ski resort town of Telluride will resume this winter after a decade without a direct route.

Denver Air Connection will launch the daily jet service beginning Dec. 16 and run through April 5.

“The flights from PHX (Sky Harbor Airport) to TEX (Telluride) hands-down offer Phoenicians the quickest and easiest way to get to major North American skiing,” Colorado Flights CEO Matt Skinner said in a press release.

“We have listened to consistent requests from both Valley and Telluride residents over the last several years to put these flights back into TEX, and are thrilled to have found an answer with the first-ever jet service.”

Tickets can be booked online.

America West/US Airways flew a turbo-prop plane between the two cities from 1993 to 2011 until the aircraft was relocated or retired, according to the release, with Phoenix flights then shifting from Telluride to the Montrose Regional Airport with American Airlines.

“Telluride is a unique destination frequented by many Arizonans,” Chad Makovsky, Phoenix director of aviation services, said in the release.

“We welcome Denver Air Connection to Sky Harbor, and we are grateful for the opportunity to provide our residents with convenient service to Telluride while allowing Colorado residents great access to the Phoenix area.”

The jet used for the route offers a 30-seat configuration with full in-flight services and is just a 70-minute trip, according to the release.

Telluride is located within Colorado’s San Juan Mountains, with the airport being just 10 minutes from the town and the slopes, according to the release.
