Firefighters battle smokey fire at scrapyard in west Phoenix

A scrapyard fire in west Phoenix sent smoke billowing into the sky Thursday afternoon.

Crews were dispatched to the scene near 39th Avenue and Indian School Road around noon, according to the Phoenix Fire Department.

Firefighters encountered heavy smoke and flames coming from a scrapyard. They worked to prevent the fire from spreading to nearby structures despite high winds.

The smoke was visible from miles away.

Crews are expected to remain on the scene for an extended period to fully extinguish the blaze.

No injuries were reported.
