Scottsdale man sentenced to 3 years in prison for fraud

PHOENIX — A Scottsdale man who defrauded multiple people of a total of $1 million was sentenced on Wednesday, authorities announced.

Brandon Scott Menaged, 22, was sentenced to three years in prison and was also ordered to pay $751,000 in restitution, according to the United States Attorney’s Office for the District of Arizona.

Menaged previously pleaded guilty to wire fraud.

Why was Menaged sentenced for fraud?

Prosecutors said that Menaged defrauded multiple victims by soliciting money from them for fake investments.

Menaged would reference phantom investors in order to convince the victims to provide him with funding.

He would then divert the victims’ funds for his own personal expenses.

When victims asked him for their money back, Menaged would give excuses on why it couldn’t be or block them.

Menaged used the victims money to fund his lavish lifestyle which include gambling at casinos, traveling internationally and purchasing luxury vehicles, firearms and Rolex watches.
