The free three-hour parking in Scottsdale has provided some flexibility for those in Old Town and downtown that Tempe and Phoenix don’t and the city is looking to bring even more to the idea, according to Phoenix Business Journal.

The three-hour limit has led to some issues and the city is looking to improve the situation while keeping their rules in place.

Scottsdale has a contract out for bid and requests for proposals due June 14 seeking some technology and innovative solutions to help with parking.

That includes some kind of smartphone application to help workers, visitors and other find parking spots. The city is also looking at shuttles to help get workers to jobs from parking areas.

Danielle Casey, Scottsdale’s economic development director, feels this entire project will end with a much easier way to go about parking. This includes technology to help find parking spots and request for a proposal (RFP) for solutions to that problem.

“We are hoping to maximize utilization of our current resources and gather data to better understand the true parking habits and needs in downtown through enhanced use of technology solutions,” Casey said. “To that end, we have issued an RFP for a turnkey solution that we hope would offer our enforcement team better tools, gather critical data on how and where people are parking and what the shortages actually area, and finally offer a public facing app to help people find available free public parking.”

The parking RFP comes as companies such as Yelp Inc. (NYSE: YELP) continue to grow their downtown Scottsdale footprints.
