Scottsdale chef named finalist for James Beard Award

PHOENIX — An award-winning Scottsdale chef could soon add another accolade.

Charleen Badman, chef and co-owner of FnB Restaurant, on Wednesday was named a finalist for the James Beard Award for Best Chef in the Southwest.

Badman is one of five finalists. The Southwest category honors chefs from Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Texas and Utah.

Badman is a five-time James Beard Award nominee for Best Chef in the Southwest.

FnB was named “Best New Restaurant” by several local outlets in 2010. The same year, Food and Wine Magazine named Badman’s braised leeks topped with mozzarella, mustard, breadcrumbs and a sunny-side up egg as a “Top Ten Dish.”

Badman and FnB co-owner Pavle Milic were inducted into the Arizona Culinary Hall Fame as “Best Restaurateurs” in 2013.

The James Beard Award Gala, which honors the year’s outstanding restaurants, chefs, and food-centric journalism, books, and broadcast media, is May 6 in Chicago. The winners will be revealed April 26.
